WHO: The Corona pandemic will not end soon

Director-General of the organization, Tedros Adhanum Gebresos, at a press conference.

The Director of the World Health Organization, Monday, warned that the outbreak of the new Coronavirus will not end soon, and expressed his “deep concern” about the impact of disruption of regular health services, especially on children.

“The pandemic is far from over,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanum Gebresos said at a press conference in Geneva, adding that the organization is concerned about the increasing curve of coronavirus infection in Africa, Eastern Europe, Latin America and some Asian countries.

He continued, “We have a long way to go and a lot of work”.

He added, based on the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization, that a shortage of other disease vaccines has been reported in 21 countries due to the restrictions imposed on the borders as a result of the Corona pandemic.

He pointed out that “the number of cases of malaria may double in sub-Saharan Africa … that should not happen. We are working with countries to support it.

The director of the World Health Organization considered that “the world had to listen” to the organization that warned of the new Coronavirus since the end of January, stressing that the world health authorities cannot force countries to implement their recommendations.

He went on ” The world had to listen attentively to the World Health Organization, because the global emergency was declared on January 30th,” with 82 corona cases recorded outside China but no death count.
